Suzlon Energy on Wednesday announced it has secured an order from the Aditya Birla Group for the development of 551.25 megawatts (MW) wind power project. The generated power will be utilised for captive usage within the Aditya Birla Group companies.

The company said it will install 175 wind turbine generators (WTGs) with a hybrid lattice tubular (HLT) tower with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW each at sites in the Barmer district in Rajasthan and the Bhuj district in Gujarat.

Suzlon Energy will be in charge of the equipment supply, erection, commission, and execution of the project in Rajasthan and in Gujarat, the company will supply, supervise, and commission the project. The firm will also undertake comprehensive operations and maintenance services post-commissioning at these sites.

According to the order, the capacity of the site in Barmer will be 368.55 MW while that in Gujarat will be 182.70 MW. The company stated that a project of this size can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 17.92 lakh tons while providing electricity to 4.5 lakh households.

The wind turbines that Suzlon will be supplying to the Aditya Birla Group are the S144-140m turbines from the company’s 3MW product series. Suzlon’s turbines feature the Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) which helps to efficiently integrate the wind turbines into the utility network to meet the grid requirements.

Suzlon recently secured an order of 402 MW from Juniper Green Energy for the 3MW series.

Shares of the company have risen by nearly 19% since the beginning of the year. The stock has gained over 343% in the last one year.
