Sonata Software shares surge nearly 5% on initiating legal proceedings against subsidiary’s client

Shares of Sonata Software, the Bengaluru-based information technology (IT) company, rose as much as 4.6% to hit an intraday high of ₹257.80, in an otherwise weak session on Monday, March 9. On the BSE, Sonata Software shares climbed as much as 4.45% amid spike in trading volumes.

Sonata Software came under buying interest after the company informed exchanges that its arm Sonata Software North America (SSNA) has initiated legal proceedings against one of its clients for collection of accounts receivables and the damages.

Sonata Software North America filed a bankruptcy petition against OBSA Operating Company LLC in United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware under Involuntary Petition under Chapter 7 of US Bankruptcy Code.

Sonata Software North America expects to recover $10.46 million from the successful closure of proceedings.

"The Company has reviewed its exposure in relation to the above development, including receivables and existing contractual protection. However, we expect Q4 26 PAT to be still accretive compared to Q3 26 due to certain other one-time offsetting factors, and Revenues also is expected to be in line with the guidance provided during February 6, 2026 earning call," Sonata Software said in a regulatory filing.

Sonata Software last week said that it was recognized as a Microsoft Frontier Partner.

"This recognition underscores Sonata Software’s leadership in delivering AI-first human-led approach that combines AI agents and human ingenuity to scale innovation and impact across Cloud & AI Platforms, AI Business Solutions, and Security. Sonata Software Q3 earnings

Sonata Software's revenue from operations rose 45% sequentially to ₹3,081 crore and its net profit came in at ₹127 crore, up 6% sequentially.

The Company declared its third interim dividend for the financial year at ₹1.25 per share at the end of December quarter.

As of 12:08 pm, Sonata Software shares traded 3.79% higher at ₹outperforming the NIFTY50 index which was down 2.34%.
