SMIDs outperform: Nifty Smallcap 100, Nifty Midcap 100 rise over 2%; Suzlon Energy, Afcons Infra top gainers

The broader market was trading higher on Wednesday, April 15, outperforming the benchmark indices. In intraday trade, the Nifty Midcap 100 rose 2.31%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 advanced 2.54%. The NIFTY50, however, climbed 1.8% to hit its day’s high of 24,280.90.

On a year-on-year basis, the Nifty Midcap 100 index has gained 13%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 gauge rose 6%.

The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, advanced during the afternoon session amid positive global cues and buying in tourism and capital market stocks.

Investor sentiment improved amid renewed hope that Iran-US talks to end the war in West Asia could resume over the next few days, US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday.

Mid-cap stocks

Opening at the 58,463.90 level, the NIFTY Midcap 100 index touched a high of the 58,842.85 level and a low of 58,378.35 during the intraday period on Wednesday.

As many as 91 stocks on the index were trading in the green while only 9 were seen lower in the afternoon session.

Suzlon Energy was the most contributing stock, advancing 7.3%, followed by Billionbrains Garage Ventures (6.77%), Hindustan Petroleum (5.6%), Oracle Financial Services Software (5.13%) and Rail Vikas Nigam (4.92%).

GMR Airports, 360 ONE WAM and Jubilant Foodworks were other top gainers, rising 4.74%, 4.36% and 4.12%, respectively.

On the other hand, ICICI Prudential AMC (-4.58%), Indus Tower (-3.34%), Oil India (-2.91%), Lenskart (-1.13%) and Indian Bank (-0.88%) were the top laggards on the index.

Shares of ICICI Prudential AMC fell despite reporting a 10.37% YoY increase in its net profit to ₹763.42 crore for the March quarter of FY26, up from ₹691.71 crore in the same period last year.

Small-cap stocks

On the Nifty Smallcap 100 index, which opened at the 17,063.60 level and touched a high of 17,188.85, almost 89 stocks were trading with gains while 11 were down.

Afcons Infrastructure emerged as the top gainer, surging 16%, while Reliance Power rose 11.87% and Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation gained 10.67%.

PG Electroplast (9.99%), Aegis Logistics (7.48%), Netweb Technologies India (7.33%), Inox Winds (6.74%), Five-Star Business Finance (6.51%) and Angel One (5.93%) were the other big contributors to the index.

Meanwhile, Ather Energy (-2.67%), Piramal Finance (-0.84%), Delhivery (-0.67%), Cohance Lifesciences (-0.64%) and Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals (-0.6%) were the draggers on the small-cap index.
