Siemens Energy shares surge most on record after net profit rises 68% in June quarter

Shares of Siemens Energy, the country's leading heavy electrical equipment maker, jumped as much as 12%, its biggest single day move on record, to hit an intraday high of ₹3,638.40 on the National Stock Exchange on Friday, August 7. On the BSE, Siemens Energy shares climbed as much as 11.8% amid spike in trading activity after it announced its June quarter earnings post market hours on Thursday.

Siemens Energy shares came under buying interest after the company said that its net profit in April-June period jumped 68% to ₹441 crore from ₹263 crore in the same period last year.

Its revenue from operations advanced 39% to ₹2,486 crore from ₹1,785 crore in the year-ago period.

"Revenue witnessed solid growth primarily supported by robust order backlog and execution. Profit from operations (%) also improved by 430 bps year-on-year to 21.9%, primarily driven by better operating leverage, higher export contributions, and disciplined order execution," Siemens Energy said in a press release.

The company reported strong operational performance as its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) jumped 72% to ₹585 crore and its EBITDA margin improved by 4.4 percentage points to 23.55%.

The company's order backlog at the end of June quarter rose 16.4% to ₹19,331 crore from ₹16,601 crore in corresponding period last year.

Siemens Energy shares were witnessing heavier than usual trading activity as volumes jumped by 6.3 times to 26.42 lakh shares on the NSE compared with an average volume of 4.2 lakh shares.

As many as 2.22 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 24,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

As of 10:21 am, Siemens Energy shares traded 9.57% higher at ₹3,563, outperforming the NIFTY NEXT 50 index which was up 0.2%.
