Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) shares gained as much as 2.27% to touch intraday high of ₹350.35 on Friday, January 9, as the firm was awarded a work tender worth ₹201.23 crore by the East Coast Railway. However, the stock slipped later amid a weak market sentiment.

In a regulatory filing on Thursday, the Navratna PSU stated that it received the letter of award (LOA) for setting up a wagon periodical overhaul (POH) workshop with a handling capacity of 200 wagons at Kantabanji, Odisha.

Under the terms of the contract, RNVL is expected to complete the work in 18 months, it said, adding that the project was awarded for ₹201,23,47,56.55 (excluding GST).

In a separate regulatory filing dated December 29, the company had said that it emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for this project.

Stock performance

At 9:48 AM, RVNL shares were trading at ₹341.45 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, falling 0.32%. The stock has touched an intraday low of ₹338.20 per share.

The scrip has lost over 5% in the past week but gained more than 11% over the month. On a year-to-date basis, it has declined about 5.5%.

While the stock hit a 52-week low of ₹301.20 on February 9, 2025, it touched a year’s high of ₹501.80 per equity share on February 1, 2025.

Q2 results

The PSU logged a 19.7% year-on-year (YoY) slump in its net profit to ₹230.3 crore for the September quarter of the 2025-26 financial year (Q2FY26), compared to ₹286.9 crore in the year-ago period.

However, its revenue from operations increased 5.5% annually to ₹5,123 crore during the quarter under review, as against ₹4,855 crore in the second quarter of the 2024-25 fiscal year (Q2FY25).

At an operational level, its EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation), also known as operating profit, stood at ₹216.9 crore in Q2FY26, reflecting a 20.3% YoY drop from ₹272 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Its EBITDA margin contracted to 4.2% in the reporting period, in comparison to 5.6% in Q2FY25.
