RVNL shares gain over 4% on inclusion in MSCI India index

RVNL shares have rallied by over 220% in 2024 so far

Shares of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), the construction arm of the Ministry of Railways, soared more than 4% on Tuesday, August 13, after it was revealed that the stock will be included in the MSCI India Standard Index.

RVNL, along with six other entities -- Dixon Technologies, Oil India , Oracle Financial Services, Prestige Estates Projects, Vodafone Idea and Zydus Lifesciences -- will be added to the index from August 30, 2024, as per a release issued post the market hours on Monday, August 12.

RVNL's scrip opened in the green today, trading at ₹581.7 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). This was up 1% as against the last closing price.

Minutes into the trading, the stock peaked to a high of ₹601.9 on the NSE, which was 4.5% higher as compared to the previous session's close.

RVNL up for 2nd day in row

Shares of state-owned RVNL jumped more than 12% on Monday, August 12, to touch an intraday high of ₹581.7 apiece on the NSE following approval of the Union Cabinet for 8 new railway projects.

Along with RVNL, other railway stocks like IRCON, IRFC and RailTel also rallied in the range of 3% to 10% on Monday.

The upward movement of stock came after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Friday, August 9, approved new railway projects worth ₹24,657 crore.

The projects will cover 14 districts across the states of Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana and West Bengal.

Notably, RVNL, which has bagged a spree of orders in the ongoing fiscal, has given returns of around 220% year-to-date. The stock has rallied by more than 360% over the past 12 months.
