Oscars 2025: This media company’s subsidiary wins the Oscar for VFX in Dune: Part Two; check details

Prime Focus shares are in focus today after its step-down subsidiary, DNEG, a leading visual effects (VFX) company, won the Visual Effects Oscar for its work for the movie Dune: Part Two at the 97th Academy Awards®.

DNEG is a world-leading visual effects, animation, and creative technologies company for the creation of film, TV, and immersive content. It has production studios across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The company has also been honoured with an Oscar for its work on Dune: Part One (2022), Tenet (2021), First Man (2019), Blade Runner 2049 (2018), Ex Machina (2016), Interstellar (2015), and Inception (2011).

Prime Focus acquired DNEG in 2014. The combined strength of both companies has led to an extraordinary seven Oscar wins in just 10 years, solidifying their impact on the global visual effects industry.

Prime Focus has been listed on the stock exchange since 2006. The company is engaged in post-production activities, including digital intermediate, visual effects, 2D to 3D conversion, and other technical and creative services. It mainly serves the media and entertainment industry. Prime Focus stock currently trades at around ₹96 per share, down 0.5% on NSE at 9:30 am on March 4.

In Q3FY25, the company reported an 8% YoY rise in consolidated operating revenue to ₹909 crore with a net loss of ₹60.2 crore. The company’s financials are quite volatile, swinging between loss and profits. In the September quarter, the company reported net profit of ₹33.4 crore.

The company is currently working on upcoming projects, including Mickey 17 (Mar 2025), Eden (Apr 2025), Animal Friends (Oct 2025), Mortal Kombat 2 (Oct 2025), Mercy (Jan 2026), Ramayana, Bad Fairies, Motor City, The Cat In The Hat, Heads of State, and The Angry Birds Movie 3.

Recently, Brahma, a global AI and content technology company and part of the DNEG Group, acquired AI content developer Metaphysic. Following this transaction, Brahma's valuation stood at $1.43 billion.
