Power transmission firm Power Grid Corporation of India’s committee of directors approved a proposal to raise up to ₹3,800 crore through the issuance of bonds on a private placement basis on Monday, November 17.

The base issue size will be ₹1,000 crore with a green shoe option of ₹2,800 crore, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Bonds are redeemable at par in 10 equal annual instalments and interest payments on a yearly basis.

Earlier, the Power Grid board had approved raising funds of up to ₹6,000 crore through an unsecured rupee term loan or line of credit (bank facility) from the State Bank of India (SBI).

On Monday, Power Grid shares settled at ₹273.70 apiece on NSE, rising 0.88%.

Over the last five trading days, shares of the firm have gained 3%. Since May 19, 2025, which is six months, the stock has fallen 10%. Year-to-date, it has declined 12%.

The company’s market capitalisation stands at ₹2.55 lakh crore.

Shares of the firm had touched their one-year high of ₹345.40 apiece on November 25, 2024, while their 52-week low of ₹247.30 was hit on February 28, 2025.

Power Grid Q2 earnings

Power Grid Corporation of India had reported a consolidated net profit of ₹3,566 crore for the second quarter of the current financial year (Q2 FY26), marking a decline of 6% from ₹3,793 crore in the same period last year.

The state-run power transmission company’s revenue from operations rose nearly 2% in the July-September period to ₹11,476 crore from ₹11,278 crore in the year-ago period.

The company reported weak operational performance, as its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA), also known as operating profit, slipped 6% to ₹9,114 crore as compared to ₹9,701 crore year-on-year (YoY).

Its margin contracted 79.4% from 86% in the corresponding period last year.

Power Grid is one of India’s leading power transmission companies and among the largest transmission utilities globally. It operates a network of around 176,343 circuit km of transmission lines and 275 substations, playing a vital role in strengthening and developing the country’s power infrastructure.
