NIFTY50, SENSEX today: Wall Street cues, FII activity, key things to know before markets open on September 25

The Indian equity benchmarks are set to open lower on Friday, September 25, as indicated by NIFTY futures traded at Gift City in Gandhinagar. GIFT NIFTY futures declined 16 points to 23,092 amid mixed cues from global markets.

The Indian equity benchmarks posted their worst single-day performance since March 9 on Thursday, September 24, as rising bond yield in US and surging crude prices in global markets dented investor sentiment towards equities.

The SENSEX dropped as much as 1,264 points at the day's lowest level and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 23,046.

The SENSEX closed 1.67% or 1,248 points lower at 73,580 and NIFTY50 index dropped 384 points or 1.64% to close at 23,063.

Investors' wealth worth ₹4.11 lakh crore was wiped out during the session from the companies listed on the BSE.

Asian markets

Asian shares were trading on a mixed note tracking a surge in crude prices. Japan's Nikkei rose 1.13% while Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 2%.

Chinese and South Korean markets were shut on account of holiday.

Wal Street update

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined for the third consecutive session on Thursday as treasury yields climbed to a 19-year high.

The Dow Jones fell 0.31% to end at 51,349.98, while the S&P 500 ended flat, with negative bias, at 7,704.13, down 0.02%. The NASDAQ Composite was little changed at 26,939.37, up 0.01%.

McDonald's Corp shares settled 0.55% lower and declined over 5% in midday trading after the company released a new multiyear growth plan, apart from a warning that high inflation and sluggish restaurant traffic are likely to continue.

Crude oil update

Brent crude futures declined 1% but remained above $105 per barrel after a Houthi missile attack on Saudi Arabia revived fears of supply disruptions, but trade was ‌volatile and prices came off session highs after reports the US and Iran discussed reopening the Strait of Hormuz, news agency Reuters reported.

FII/DII activity

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹5,027.36 crore on Thursday while domestic institutional investors bought stocks worth ₹4,301 crore, as per NSE data.

FIIs have so far this month sold shares worth ₹12,609 crore taking the total quantum of selling to ₹2,37,050 crore for 2026, data from NSDL showed.
