NIFTY50, SENSEX today: Wall Street cues, FII activity, key things to know before markets open on August 6

The Indian equity benchmarks are set to open higher Thursday, August 6, as indicated by GIFT NIFTY futures. NIFTY futures at GIFT City in Gandhinagar advanced 46 points to 24,693 despite subdued cues from Asian markets.

The benchmarks edged higher on Wednesday powered by gains in State Bank of India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Infosys and Ultratech Cement.

For most part of the day, benchmarks traded in a narrow range with a negative bias after the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra, unanimously decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 5.25% at its latest policy meeting.

The SENSEX traded in a band of 770 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 24,677 and low of 24,497.

The SENSEX ended 152 points higher at 78,581 and NIFTY50 index advanced 10 points to close at 24,625.

Asian markets

Most of the Asian markets were trading lower dragged down by selling pressure in AI related shares such as SK Hynix, Samsung, Kioxia and Tokyo Electron.

Japan's Nikkei dropped 1.4%, South Korea's KOSPI index declined 3.6%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 1.77% while China's Shanghai Composite index rose 0.4%.

Wall Street update

Overnight, US benchmark indices ended on a mixed note with Dow Jones hitting another record high and the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ Composite settling in the negative territory.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.49% higher at 54,349.12. The S&P 500 and the NASDAQ Composite closed 0.17% and 0.83% lower, respectively.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp, or SpaceX, shares fell 13.61% to $108.27 per share after the company released its second quarter earnings. The Elon Musk-led firm's capital expenditure advanced sixfold to $18.4 billion, which was ahead of analyst expectations.

FII/DII activity

Stocks to watch

Dabur: US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has issued a warning letter to home-grown FMCG major Dabur India citing significant violations of current good manufacturing practices (CGMP) at its pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Silvassa.

The warning letter follows an inspection conducted by the US health regulator at the company's facility in Silvassa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, from January to December 16, 2026.

Bayer CropScience: Bayer CropScience, the Indian unit of German crop science group Bayer AG, on Wednesday posted a 15.39% rise in net profit to ₹321.6 crore for the first quarter of FY27, supported by improved gross margins driven by favourable pricing actions and a stronger product mix.

The company reported a net profit of ₹278.7 crore a year earlier, according to a regulatory filing.

Its total income declined marginally by 0.48% to ₹1,923.9 crore in the first quarter of 2026-27 from ₹1,933.3 crore in the year-ago period.

Urban Company: Home care service provider Urban Company aims to maintain the highest growth in the water purifier segment driven by innovation in the category, a senior official of the company said.

The company has rolled out two new water purifiers, Native M3 and Native M3 Pro, at a starting price of ₹22,199 and ₹25,199, respectively.

Indian Bank: State-owned Indian Bank expects its total business to more than double to ₹35 lakh crore over the next six years as it gears up to celebrate its 125th anniversary, Managing Director and CEO Binod Kumar said on Wednesday.

The Chennai-based lender crossed ₹15 lakh crore in business in the June quarter of the current fiscal.

The bank's total business (total deposits and total advances) increased by 14% to ₹15,29,201 crore as on June 30, 2026.

Indian Bank board has set a long-term target for it to become a big global bank, he said while kickstarting the celebration for the 125th foundation day.

TV Today Network: TV Today Network Ltd on Wednesday reported a 39.6% increase in its consolidated net profit to ₹10.26 crore for the June quarter of FY27.

The company had reported a net profit of ₹7.35 crore a year ago, according to a regulatory filing by TV Today Network.

TV Today's revenue from operations rose 4.57% to ₹206.22 crore in the June quarter. It was ₹197.19 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

JK Lakshmi Cement: JK Lakshmi Cement on Wednesday reported a 27.9% decline in its consolidated net profit to ₹108.07 crore for the June quarter of FY27.

The company had posted a net profit of ₹149.88 crore in the April-June period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing by JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd (JKLC), a flagship company of JK Organisation.

Its revenue from operations grew 9.4% to ₹1,904.78 crore in the June quarter of FY27. It was ₹1,740.93 crore in the year-ago period.

Biocon: Biocon Ltd on Wednesday reported a 53.36% rise in consolidated net profit to ₹136.8 crore in the first quarter ended June, on the back of strong growth in biopharma business.

The company had posted a consolidated net profit of ₹89.2 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding fiscal, Biocon Ltd said in a regulatory filing.

Consolidated total income in the first quarter stood at ₹4,390.5 crore, compared to ₹4,021.6 crore in the year-ago period, it added.

Earnings today: A total of 165 companies are slated to announce their June quarter (Q1 FY27) results on Thursday, August 6.

The list includes names such as LIC, Trent, Britannia Industries, Samvardhana Motherson International, Hero MotoCorp, Lupin, Siemens Energy India, Premier Energies, Apollo Tyres, NCC, Kirloskar Oil Engines, Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Reliance Power, Sonata Software, and Vikram Solar, among others.
