The Indian equity benchmarks are set to open on a flat note on Tuesday, August 4, as indicated by GIFT NIFTY futures. NIFTY futures at GIFT City in Gandhinagar fell 6 points to 24,646 amid subdued cues from Asian markets.
The Indian equity benchmarks rose for a fourth straight session on Monday and closed at their highest levels in five months as investor sentiment got a boost from drop in crude prices as geopolitical tensions eased in West Asia.
The SENSEX ended 0.7% or 544 points higher at 78,639 and NIFTY50 index advanced 1.6% or 391 points to close at 24,774.
Monday's trading session was the first in which markets closed under the Closing Auction Session (CAS) mechanism.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) recorded a turnover of ₹1,276.2 crore during the Closing Auction Session (CAS) on Monday, while turnover on the BSE stood at ₹10.8 crore.
On the NSE, ICICI Bank emerged as the top traded stock in terms of CAS turnover, followed by HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Infosys and Bharti Airtel.
Bajaj Finance, Eternal, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), CG Power and Axis Bank were the other stocks among the top 10 in terms of turnover during the closing auction session, NSE said.
Asian markets were trading on a subdued note as crude oil moved higher after reported suggested that Tehran has denied holding talks with Washington, saying it is speaking to Oman about the Strait of Hormuz.
While, US President Donald Trump said that talks with Iran were under way, warning that the negotiations are Tehran’s “last chance” to secure a deal to end the five-month conflict.
Japan's Nikkei 0.5%, China's Shanghai Composite declined 0.14%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.5% and South Korea's KOSPI declined 0.24%.
Following latest developments in West Asia, Brent Crude futures rose 1.3% to $75 per barrel.
US stocks ended sharply higher on Monday as falling crude prices erased worries about spiralling inflation could get worse.
S&P 500 index advanced 1.48%, Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1.32% and tech heavy Nasdaq index jumped 2.13%.
