Mukesh Ambani says India to become world’s biggest intelligence market as Reliance, Nvidia partner to build AI infrastructure

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, in a chat session with Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani at the summit, said that the US chipmaker and Reliance will be jointly attempting to build AI infrastructure in India.

"It makes complete sense that India should manufacture its own AI. You should not export data to import intelligence. India should not export flour to import bread," said Jensen Huang.

Mukesh Ambani projected that India will become one of the largest intelligence markets.

"India will be one of the biggest intelligence markets. We can use intelligence to actually bring prosperity to all the people and bring equality to the world," Ambani said.

Here’s a look at the key highlights from the fireside chat held between Mukesh Ambani and Jensen Huang at the Nvidia AI summit:

From knowledge revolution to intelligence revolution

RIL Chairman, Mukesh Ambani said that Nvidia is at the forefront of driving the change from the knowledge revolution to the intelligence revolution with the launch of its AI technology. He expressed his gratitude to Huang for bringing in the technology into the world.

“What you are driving is the knowledge revolution converting into the intelligence revolution, which drives prosperity across the world. I think we are at the doorstep of the new intelligence age. Thank you for bringing the intelligence age into our world and our lifetime,” Ambani said.

India’s Human Resources Advantage

Huang noted that India is set to benefit from its many advantages in the ‘intelligence revolution’. Huang added that India’s large population of computer scientists is an asset as the world is on the cusp of transforming the computing industry into the intelligence industry. Huang highlighted India’s strength of many computer scientists at a time when the computing industry will become the intelligence industry.

“Leveraging on everything you have, everything you know, your indigenous advantage, and enormous amounts of data as well as a large population of consumers to drive that flywheel of intelligence to data and data to intelligence, and to have the national will to go do something about it is extraordinary,” Huang said.

Reliance and Nvidia’s Vision for AI in India

Huang projected that by the end of 2024, India will have twenty times the computing capacities compared to the previous year.

"In just one year's time, by the end of this year, we will have nearly 20 times more compute capacities here in India than just a little over a year ago," Huang said.

Role of Connectivity In Furthering Intelligence Revolution

Ambani emphasised that India has some of the best connectivity infrastructure in the world. He added that Jio has provided data at accessible rates, which has generated value between $500 and $700 every year. He added that this value generation, backed by technological progress, will be one of the key factors for India becoming the biggest intelligence market in the world.

“We have also been fortunate to have strong connectivity infrastructure. Today, apart from the US and China, India has some of the best digital connectivity. As Jio, we delivered about 16 Hexabytes of data this year. In the US, you pay $5 per GB. The world average for data is $3.5 per GB and in India, Jio delivers data at 15 cents per GB. What that means is that technology has delivered customer value of between $500 billion and $700 billion year-on-year, every year. This is the reason India will be one of the biggest intelligence markets in the world,” Ambani said.

From Centre of IT to Centre of AI

Ambani said that India's demographics are set to help it transform itself from a centre of IT to a Centre of AI. He added that India is at an advantage due to its population, which has an average age of under 35. Ambani also said that Prime Minister Modi’s vision and India’s raw talent are likely to aid its transformation into an AI centre.

“From my experience, as our Prime Minister said, this is a new aspirational India. We are one of the few countries in the world with an average age below 35. The Prime Minister’s vision has been crucial in driving progress on the ground. Indians possess raw talent, and over the years, India has become home to many companies. Many energy giants conduct their innovations here, making us a fast-emerging innovation hub,” Ambani said.
