Built with an investment of approximately ₹40 crore, the new plant has a processing capacity of up to 150 tonnes per day. “The expansion with latest technology significantly strengthens Milky Mist’s ability to scale its high-protein portfolio and respond to the growing consumer preference for convenient, protein-rich food products,” the company said in a regulatory filing.

The new facility will use ultrafiltration technology for the manufacture of Skyr and Greek Yogurt.

Milky Mist installed its customised multi-product yogurt manufacturing facility in 2022 with a capacity of about 20 tonnes per day. Since then, annual demand for the category has grown by more than 50%, leading the company to rapidly outgrow its initial capacity.

The firm said it has also witnessed demand for high-protein yogurts more than double in recent months, reflecting the increasing relevance of protein-led nutrition in everyday consumption.

“High-protein nutrition is moving from a niche preference to an increasingly mainstream consumption trend. The strong growth in demand for Skyr and Greek Yogurt validates our early investment in this category and reinforces its long-term potential within India’s value-added FMCG market,” said Dr. K Rathnam, Wholetime Director and Chief Executive Officer, Milky Mist Dairy Food.

The new facility was developed following an extensive evaluation of global manufacturing technologies. Its advanced ultrafiltration capabilities will support higher production volumes, consistent product quality and the development of differentiated high-protein dairy offerings for a wider consumer base.

The facility is part of Milky Mist’s broader expansion and modernisation programme at Perundurai—one of the stated objectives of the company’s initial public offering (IPO). “Its commissioning represents the translation of the company’s capital investment programme into operational capacity across the high-growth value-added dairy category,” Milky Mist said.

The expansion is expected to increase the availability of Milky Mist’s Skyr and Greek Yogurt portfolio, support future revenue growth and strengthen the company’s position in the high-protein dairy segment.
