Mid- and small-cap indices recover from day’s low: IREDA, NMDC, Tata Teleservices among top losers

The broader market remained under pressure for the third consecutive session on Friday, June 13, as benchmark equity indices traded lower amid geopolitical tensions and global cues.

Last seen, NIFTY Midcap 100 was trading 0.52% lower at the 58,137.15 level, while NIFTY Smallcap 100 was at 18,358.25, declining 0.58%.

During the intraday period, both the midcap and smallcap indices declined over 2%, underperforming the equity benchmark indices. It, however, recovered from the day's low later.

Over a week, the Nifty Midcap 100 index has slipped 1.45%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 gauge has declined 1.14%.

Midcap stocks

After opening at the 57,246.25 level, the NIFTY Midcap 100 index touched a low of the 57,246.25 level and a high of 58,341.90 during the intraday period on Friday.

IREDA took the lead among losers, declining 4.1%, followed by NMDC (-3.08%), Union Bank (-2.62%), Exide Industries (-2.27%), Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (-2.22%) and Indraprastha Gas (-2.19%).

Further, shares of Premier Energies, Adani Total Gas and NHPC also tumbled 2.16%, 2.06% and 2.05%, respectively.

However, few stocks were trading positively in the sector. Max Healthcare (2.55%), Astral (1.94%) and Jubilant Foodworks (1.92%) were among the top gainers.

Again, defence stocks in the sector, like Cochin Shipyard (1.83%) and Bharat Dynamics (1.33%), were also seen higher.

Smallcap stocks

After opening at the 18,074.30 level on Friday, the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index touched a low of 18,072.35 and a high of 18,435.70 during the intraday period.

Tata Teleservices (-6.31%), PNB Housing Finance (-2.97%), PVR Inox (-2.92%), Reliance Power (-2.83%) and Swan Energy (-2.77%) were among the top losers in the sector.

Shares of IDBI were also seen lower by 2.72%, followed by Railtel (-2.72%), Inox Wind (-2.44%), Welspun Living (-2.38%) and Trident (-2.36%).

Meanwhile, small-cap defence stocks like Zentech Technologies (3.29%), Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (2.61%), The Great Eastern Shipping Company (2.5%) and Data Patterns (2.39%) were seen trading higher.
