At close, the S&P BSE SENSEX stood at 81,289.96, down 236 points, or 0.29%, while the NSE's NIFTY50 index ended at 24,565.25, down 76.55 points, or 0.31%. Out of 50 constituents of the NIFTY50 index, 36 declined, and 14 advanced.

The top five losers on the index were NTPC, HUL, HeroMoto Corp, Tata Consumer Products, and Apollo Hospitals.
The CPI data, which was released after market hours, showed that India’s retail inflation moderated to 5.48% in November 2024, down from 6.21% in October, according to the government data released on Thursday.
The decline in inflation was primarily due to a slowdown in price increases in the “food and beverages” category, the release said.

The top five gainers were Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, and IndusInd Bank.
On the SENSEX, Tech Mahindra (up 1.67%) was the top gainer, followed by Bharti Airtel and IndusInd Bank.
On the other hand, NTPC (down nearly 3%) was the biggest loser.
The stock eventually ended at ₹522, up 1.54%.
The BSE MidCap index ended at 47,815.88, down 269 points, or 0.56%, while the BSE SmallCap index settled at 57,125.14, down 579 points, or 1%.
Barring technology stocks, all other sectoral indices ended in the red. The BSE Information Technology index ended at 45,429.08 levels, up 289 points, or 0.64%.
Out of 4,105 stocks traded on the BSE, 1,481 advanced, and 2,517 declined, while 107 stocks remained unchanged.
As many as 259 stocks hit their 52-week high levels, while 22 stocks hit their 52-week low levels.
Further, 349 stocks hit their upper circuit limits and 267 stocks touched their lower circuit bands.
