M&M shares gain over 2% after Mahindra Group signs MoU with Sentrycs to develop anti-drone systems

Shares of Mahindra and Mahindra Limited on Friday, August 30, gained more than 2% after Mahindra Group signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sentrycs to develop anti-drone solutions in India.

Mahindra Group, along with Sentrycs, an Israel-based anti-drone solutions provider, will develop ‘differentiated Anti-Drone Solutions’ in India. The company informed the stock exchanges in a filing that the anti-drone systems will be used for both civilian and military purposes.

The anti-drone solutions will be manufactured under the central government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. Sentrycs, as per the MoU, will provide Transfer of Technology (TOT), which will be used for the manufacturing of radio frequency-based counter-drone solutions within the country itself.

After the announcement, shares of M&M increased 2.3% to hit an intraday high of ₹2,821.55 apiece against the previous closing price of ₹2,757.60 crore. However, the stock pared some of its early gains to close at ₹2,812 apiece, up 1.97% on the NSE.

“The ‘differentiated anti-drone solution’ is an autonomous and integrated system with a command and control (C2) module, and enables detection, tracking, identification and mitigation of incoming drones,” Mahindra Group said in a press release.

The counter-drone system can also monitor drones' flight paths. It is further equipped to identify the drones' models, unique serial numbers, and IDs. The company said this technology will help precisely differentiate between friendly and hostile drones.

If the drone is classified as a threat, the counter system will “autonomously take control and ensure it lands safely in a predefined zone resulting in no collateral damage.”

This anti-drone can be used to protect important infrastructure and landmarks in urban areas in civilian applications. Military forces can also deploy the system as an integral part of a broader multi-layered ‘anti-drone solution’.

“We believe that this MOU with Sentrycs would enable the Group to explore opportunities in the anti-drone space and set the stage for cutting-edge technological offerings with global partners for a full suite of anti-drone solutions across applications in the future,” said Vinod Sahay, President Aerospace and Defence Sector and Member of Group Executive Board, Mahindra and Mahindra.
