Kotak Mahindra Bank's board had in November last year approved the proposal of a stock split, or subdivision, of its shares.

The board had approved the subdivision (split) of one existing equity share of the bank having a face value of ₹5 each, fully paid-up, into 5 (five) equity shares of the bank having a face value of ₹1 each, fully paid-up.

A 1:5 stock split means that for every 1 share a shareholder currently owns will receive five shares after the split.

A stock split increases share count and reduces the share price, but your total investment value and ownership remain unchanged because it is simply a mathematical adjustment.

The last time Kotak Bank split its shares was in 2015, when the lender had subdivided the stock in a 2:1 ratio.
