IEX reports highest-ever monthly electricity traded volume at 13,938 MUs in August; shares in focus

IEX share price: Shares of Indian Energy Exchange Ltd (IEX) are expected to be in the spotlight on Friday, September 4, as the power exchange reported its market update for the month of August.

According to a regulatory filing dated September 3, IEX said that it has recorded its highest-ever monthly electricity traded volume of 13,938 million units (MUs) in August 2026, marking a 20.2% year-on-year (YoY) increase.

India’s energy consumption touched 169.01 billion units (BUs) in August 2026, registering a YoY growth of 12.85%. This rise in power demand drove buy bids in the Day-Ahead Market up 61.7% year-on-year, resulting in an increase in prices.

The Day-Ahead Market (DAM), including HP-DAM, achieved 5,517 MU volume for the reporting period, as against 4,797 MU volume in August 2025, marking a 15% YoY surge. Furthermore, the average market clearing price in the DAM stood at ₹4.88 per unit, up 22% YoY.

The Real-Time Electricity Market (RTM) volume advanced 10.6% YoY to 5,565 MU in August 2026, in contrast to 5,029 MU in the year-ago period. The average market clearing price in the RTM increased by 30.4% YoY to ₹4.41 per unit during the month.

The Day Ahead Contingency and Term-Ahead Market (TAM), including HPTAM, comprising contingency, daily & weekly, and monthly contracts up to three months, traded 1,765 MU in August 2026, reflecting a 111.3% surge from 835 MU volume in the same month last year.

Additionally, IEX Green Market, comprising the Green Day-Ahead and Green Term-Ahead Market segments, achieved 1,091 MU volume during the month under review, up 17.3% YoY from 930 MU in August 2025.

The weighted average price in the Green Day-Ahead Market (G-DAM) for August 2026 rose by 5.1% YoY to ₹3.92 per unit.

The company saw an 86.6% YoY fall in the trade volume of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to 2.91 lakh during the month due to lower participation. Trading sessions were held on August 12 and August 27, 2026, with clearing prices of ₹370 per REC and ₹350 per REC, respectively.

“The next REC trading sessions at the Exchange are scheduled on 09th September ’26 and 30th September ’26,” the filing read.

IEX stock performance

Shares of IEX closed 0.24% higher at ₹119.15 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday, September 3. However, the monthly update was declared after the market closed.

The scrip has lost 2% in the past week and 7% over the month. On a year-to-date (YTD) basis, it has fallen 11%.

While the stock hit a 52-week high of ₹160.27 per equity share on January 9, 2026, it reached a year’s low of ₹114.60 per unit on March 30, 2026.
