ICICI Lombard shares rally 8% on strong Q2 performance; H1 profit soars 23%

ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company shares rallied nearly 8% to an intraday high of ₹2,002.20 apiece as the investors cheered September quarter earnings.

The insurance firm reported an 18% year-on-year (YoY) increase in its net profit to ₹819.5 crore in the second quarter of the 2025-26 financial year (Q1FY26), compared to ₹694 crore it clocked in the year-ago period.

The company’s net total income stood at ₹6,583 crore in the quarter under review, improving 12.5% YoY from ₹5,850 crore in the September quarter of FY25. 

ICICI Lombard reported a gross direct premium income (GDPI) of ₹6,596 crore for Q2 FY26, a decline of 1.9% from ₹6,721 crore in the same quarter last year. However, excluding the crop and mass health segments, the company’s GDPI rose 3.5% during the quarter, compared to the industry growth of 9.8%.

Further, the combined ratio was at 105.1% in Q2 FY26 compared to 104.5% in Q2 FY25. In the reporting quarter, ROAE was at 21.4% as against 21.8% in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Interim dividend

Along with its earnings, the company has also approved an interim dividend of ₹6.5 per share.

“The Board also approved the declaration and payment of an interim dividend of ~ 6.50/- per equity share, i.e., at the rate of 65.0% of the face value of ~ 10/- each, for the financial year ended March 31, 2026,” it said in a regulatory filing.

It also said that the interim dividend will be paid to the company’s equity shareholders on or before November 12, 2025, after deducting tax at source at the applicable rate.

ICICI Lombard H1 FY26

The insurance company’s GDPI was at ₹14,331 crore in H1 FY2026 compared to ₹14,409 crore in H1 FY2025, a de-growth of 0.5%, as against the industry growth of 7.3%.

Consequently, profit after tax (PAT) grew by 22.9% to ₹1,567 crore in H1 FY26 compared to ₹1,274 crore in H1 FY25.

Further, the combined ratio was at 104.0% in H1 FY26 compared to 103.2% in H1 FY25. Excluding the impact of CAT losses of ₹73 crore in H1 FY26 and ₹94 crore in H1 FY25, the combined ratio was 103.3% and 102.2%, respectively.

Meanwhile, Return on Average Equity (ROAE) was at 20.8% in H1 FY26 in contrast to 20.3% in H1 FY25.

At 10:20 AM, ICICI Lombard shares were trading at ₹1,994.20 apiece on NSE, soaring 7.52%.

In the last five trading sessions, the stock have rallied more than 7%, while in a month’s time, they have climbed 5%.

However, for the six-month period, ICICI Lombard shares have surged 10%. Its market capitalisation stands at ₹99,288.53 crore.

Shares of the firm had touched their one-year high of ₹2,145 apiece on October 16, 2024, while their 52-week low of ₹1,613.70 was hit on March 4, 2025.
