Hindustan Zinc shares surge over 3% after silver hits record high

Shares of Hindustan Zinc, the country's leading silver producer, rose as much as 3.31% to hit an intraday high of ₹482 on the BSE after silver touched record high in the spot markets and on the Multi Commodity Exchange. On the National Stock Exchange, Hindustan Zinc share price rose as much as 3.4%.

Hindustan Zinc shares were witnessing higher than usual trading volumes as trading volume nearly doubled to 1.25 crore shares compared with an average trading volume of 70 lakh shares.

As many as 8.23 lakh Hindustan Zinc shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 2.9 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Silver prices on Monday soared by ₹7,000 to hit an all-time high of ₹1.5 lakh per kilogram in the national capital, while gold also scaled a fresh peak of ₹1,19,500 per 10 grams amid strong global trends as investors turned to the safe-haven asset amid concerns over a possible US government shutdown.

Silver extended gains for the fourth straight session. The white metal had ended at ₹1,43,000 per kg in the previous trade.

The white metal prices have skyrocketed by ₹60,300, or 67.22%, in the current calendar year, rallying from ₹89,700 per kg on December 31, 2024.

In the overseas market, both gold and silver posted robust gains. Spot gold surged 2% to hit an all-time high of $3,831.33 per ounce, while spot silver advanced more than 2% to $47.18 per ounce.

In the domestic futures market on Monday, gold for October delivery appreciated by ₹1,702, or 1.5 per cent, to hit a record high of ₹1,15,490 per 10 grams.

Silver witnessed gains on the MCX. The white metal futures for December delivery bounced ₹2,290, or 1.61%, to hit a lifetime high of ₹1,44,179 per kilogram.

The March 2026 contract for silver futures jumped ₹2,559, or 1.78%, to hit a fresh new peak of ₹1,45,817 per kg on the commodities bourse.

As of 2:48 pm, Hindustan Zinc shares traded 3.29% higher at ₹482, outperforming the BSE200 index which was trading on a flat note.
