The Indian equity benchmarks extended losses in noon deals on Tuesday, August 11, as spike in crude oil dented investor sentiment towards equities. The SENSEX fell as much as 473 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 24,429 dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank and Larsen & Toubro.

As of 12:05 pm, the SENSEX was down 477 points at 78,065 and NIFTY50 index declined 152 points to 24,430.

Here are stocks surging amid spike in trading volumes:

Gland Pharma

Shares of the drugmaker rose as much as 12% to hit a fresh 52-week high of ₹2,989.25 on the BSE after it reported its June quarter earnings.

Gland Pharma's net profit in April-June period rose 47% annually to ₹317 crore from ₹215 crore a year earlier.

The company’s revenue from core operations advanced 19.5% to ₹1,800 crore in the June quarter from ₹1,506 crore in the same period a year earlier.

The revenue growth was largely due to the strong performance in the US market segment, where revenue surged 32% YoY to ₹981 crore, and around 20% in Europe to ₹395 crore.

Trading volume in the stock jumped 12.2 times to 63.45 lakh shares on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) compared with an average volume of 5.21 lakh shares.

CIE Automotive India

Shares of the auto parts maker rose as much as 2.22% to hit an intraday high of ₹419 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 7.9 times to 25.90 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 3.28 lakh shares.

As many as 18.41 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 18,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

MRPL

Shares of the oil refiner rose as much as 6.59% to hit an intraday high of ₹174 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped 5.9 times to 1.87 crore shares compared with an average volume of 31.96 lakh shares.

As many as 10.79 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 4.53 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Amara Raja Energy

Shares of the country's leading batteries maker rose as much as 8% to hit an intraday high of ₹969.15 after its net profit rose 5% to ₹203 crore in the first quarter of current financial year from ₹194 crore in the year-ago period.

Its revenue from operations advanced 21% to ₹4,041 crore at the end of June quarter from ₹3,350 crore in the same period last year.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 5.3 times to 51.69 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 9.28 lakh shares.

Chennai Petroleum Corporation

Shares of the oil refining company advanced as much as 11% to an intraday high of ₹1,379.40 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 4.5 times to 66.21 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 14.85 lakh shares.

As many as 6.08 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 1,32 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.
