Reliance Retail on Friday reported a strong set of numbers for the March 2025 quarter (Q4 FY25).

Reliance Retail Venture Ltd (RRVL), the retail arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, on Friday reported a 29.1% increase in its net profit to ₹3,545 crore for the March quarter of FY25, while its gross revenue went up 15.65% to ₹88,620 crore.

Its gross revenue for the financial year ended March 2025 was up 7.85% to ₹3,30,870 crore, and profit after tax was up 11.33% to ₹12,388 crore.

The company had reported a gross income of ₹76,627 crore and a profit after tax of ₹2,746 crore in the January-March quarter a year ago, according to the regulatory filing of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL).

Reliance Retail's revenue from operations in the latest March quarter was up 16.3% to ₹78,622 crore. It was at ₹67,610 crore logged in the year-ago quarter.

The pre-tax profit (EBITDA) of the country's leading retailer was also up 14.3% in the March quarter of FY25 to ₹6,711 crore.

Reliance Retail continued to grow its store footprint and opened 2,659 new stores in FY25. However, with store rationalisation, total store count was at 19,340 with total area of 77.4 million sq ft as on March 31.

RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said, "The retail segment also delivered consistent growth. In FY25, the business focused on a strategic recalibration of our store network, aimed at improving operational efficiencies and long-term sustainability."

"Our enhanced product catalogue and user experience across all formats strengthened customer engagement. The quick hyperlocal deliveries initiative has also gained significant traction in the market, connecting strongly with the users," the Chairman said.

Quick Commerce updates

Reliance Retail, which saw 2.4x growth in the number of orders from its quick commerce/hyperlocal delivery in the March quarter, is significantly scaling it with plans to open dark stores to expand the coverage area.

In the March quarter, Reliance Retail saw over 2.4 times growth in terms of the number of orders, which is a significant scale-up, said its CFO Dinesh Taluja during the earnings call earlier this week.

Reliance said that it covers hyper-local deliveries, sub-30-minute delivery, at 4,000 pin codes across the country through its network of existing stores, which has a much wider reach than any other quick commerce player in the country.

Through its JioMart app, Reliance Retail is offering quick and scheduled deliveries, which currently have three types of services.

There is an under-30-minute quick service, and second is a scheduled delivery, where the assortment is much wider, and then there is a subscription service, where a customer can subscribe and everyday goods are delivered at doorsteps early in the morning.

"All three are picking up very well. The average daily orders were up 62 per cent on a Y-o-Y basis," Taluja said, adding, "Specifically, our under-30-minute offering, which has the widest network reach. We have almost 2,000-plus stores which are on the network, covering more than 4,000-plus PIN codes. So this is a much wider reach than any other quick commerce player. We have kind of repivoted our model completely to under 30 minutes delivery."

According to Taluja, as part of the strategy, Reliance Retail is using its store network, delivering within a three-kilometre radius.

"There are some dark pockets where we will set up dark stores also; wherever there is a genuine requirement, there is enough volume, and we cannot service it within 30 minutes, we may set up some dark stores as well. So that is on the quick commerce side of it," the company added.

Eternal operates a quick-commerce grocery delivery service via its arm Blinkit, while Swiggy operates in the area via Swiggy Instamart.
