CESC rises as its arm to invest up to ₹5,000 crore in Solar Cell, battery manufacturing

CESC to expand its business in solar cell manufacturing through its subsidiary.

Shares of CESC traded in green on Friday afternoon after the company announced new capex activity with an outlay of ₹5,000 crore. Shares of CESC traded 0.7% higher at ₹166 apiece on the NSE.

The RPSG group company announced that its wholly owned subsidiary -- CESC Green Power, is in the process of setting up Solar Cell / Module and other value chain / ancillary manufacturing across various locations in India. This includes a 3+ GW solar cell/module plant, battery manufacturing, a 60 MW RE power plant, and various ancillary units. The estimated investment required for the projects is up to ₹5,000 crore.

In the latest quarter, the company’s total revenue jumped 7% YoY to ₹5,202 crore as against ₹4,863 crore. The operating profit more than doubled to ₹864 crore as against ₹371 crore in the previous year’s similar quarter. However, the net profit remained largely unchanged at ₹404 crore in Q1FY26 as compared to ₹388 crore in the previous year’s same quarter.

CESC is engaged in power generation and distribution in the state of West Bengal. The company is a fully integrated power utility with its operation spanning the entire value chain, right from mining coal, generating power and distributing power.
