The Indian equity benchmarks held on to gains in afternoon trading on Wednesday, June 17,as market sentiment remained upbeat tracking a fall in crude prices and strength in rupee against the US dollar. The SENSEX rose as much as 411 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 24,108 led by gains in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Trent, Infosys, Eternal, State Bank of India and Bharti Airtel.

As of 1:45 pm, the SENSEX was up 200 points at 77,008 and NIFTY50 index advanced 59 points to 24,048.

Here are stocks witnessing heavier than usual trading volumes:
IDBI Bank: Shares of the Mumbai-based lender surged as much as 20% to hit an intraday high of ₹92.25 after a report by Business Today suggested that government may go for IDBI Bank divestment in current financial year.

The stock was witnessing heavier than usual trading activity as volume jumped 17 times to 20.29 crore shares compared with an average volume of 1.20 crore shares.

On the BSE, as many as 76 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 7.63 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Brigade Enterprises: The shares of the Bengaluru-based real estate developer advanced as much as 10.2% to hit an intraday high of ₹595 after amid spike in trading activity.

A total of 3.65 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 28,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

On the NSE, volume jumped 14 times to 62.11 lakh shares compared with an average volume 4.3 lakh shares.

UCO Bank: Shares of the state-run lender advanced as much as 11.5% to hit an intraday high of ₹29.36 as volumes jumped nine times to 4.89 crore shares compared with an average volume of 56 lakh shares.

On the BSE, as many as 27.3 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 4.37 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Apollo Tyres: Shares of the country's leading tyre maker jumped as much as 6.52% to touch an intraday high of ₹443.65 as volume jumped by five times to 56.36 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 11 lakh shares.

On the BSE, a total of 7.12 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 95,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Newgen Software Technologies: Shares of the information technology company advanced as much as 7.75% to hit an intraday high of ₹515 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume jumped 10 times to 84 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 8.49 lakh shares.
