The Indian equity benchmarks extended losses in noon deals on Thursday, August 27. The SENSEX fell as much as 519 points from the day's highest level and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 24,133 dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Infosys, State Bank of India, Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC and Tata Consultancy Services.

As of 12:20 pm, the SENSEX was down 250 points at 77,211 and NIFTY50 index declined 62 points to 24,144.

Here are shares surging amid spike in trading activity:
Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation: Shares of the country's leading tea producer advanced as much as 15% to hit an intraday high of ₹1,635 after it informed exchanges that it received a favourable judgement from the Supreme Court.

Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation post market hours on Wednesday said that Supreme Court allowed its interlocutory application and recalled the observation made on May 29, 2026, which said that lease rent of ₹4,655 crore remained to be recovered by the state government from the company.

Trading volume jumped by 386.5 times to 83.53 lakh shares on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) compared with an average volume of 21,614 shares.

As many as 5.29 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 2,258 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Travel Food Services: Shares of the quick service restaurant (QSR) chain operator advanced as much as 10% to hit an intraday high of ₹1,416 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume jumped by 13.4 times to 4.4 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 32,940 shares.

As many as 34,000 shares changed hands compared with an average of 17,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

NMDC Steel: Shares of the steel maker advanced as much as 9.79% to hit an intraday high of ₹45.50 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 13 times to 5.46 crore shares compared with an average volume of 42 lakh shares.

As many as 29.85 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average volume of 4.41 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Shyam Metalics: Shares of the iron and steel products maker rose as much as 4.2% to hit an intraday high of ₹1,084.45, mirroring gains in other metal stocks.

Trading volume jumped by nine times to 18.75 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 2.08 lakh shares.

As many as 10.99 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 9,477 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Bikaji Foods International Shares of the packaged foods company rose as much as 4.12% to hit an intraday high of ₹635.95 after the company announced a strategic partnership with Thayekunni Khaleel, a world-renowned technical expert in the bakery industry, through Bikaji Bakes Private Limited (BBPL/ Bikaji Bakes).

Trading volume jumped by 4.4 times to 4.28 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 97,049 shares.
