Bharat Dynamics shares zoom nearly 5% as DRDO completes user evaluation trials of Akash-NG system

The stock was trading 3.54% higher at ₹1,482 per equity share as of 1:19 pm.

The scrip has gained more than 12% in the past week and about 0.5% over the month. On a year-to-date basis, it has risen by approximately 31%.

While the share touched a 52-week high of ₹2,096.60 on May 30, 2025, it reached a year’s low of ₹907 per unit on March 3, 2025.

In a statement dated December 23, the Ministry of Defence said that during the trials, the Next Generation Akash missiles successfully intercepted aerial targets at different range and altitudes, including the near-boundary-low-altitude and long-range, high-altitude scenarios.

“Akash-NG, equipped with an indigenous RF seeker and propelled by solid rocket motors, is a potent system for ensuring air defense against different types of aerial threats,” the statement said.

It added that all the systems and sub-systems, including the Multi Function Radar (MFR), Command and Control Unit, Missile Launch vehicle (MLV), etc., were designed by various laboratories of DRDO with the help of Indian industries.

The trials were witnessed by Senior Scientists of DRDO and User Reps from the Indian Air Force (IAF), it stated.

Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh said that the state-of-the-art missile system will further strengthen the air defence capabilities of the IAF.

Other development

On December 1, BDL bagged additional orders worth ₹2,461.63 crore from the Indian Army for Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGMs) and Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) (Emergency Procurement).

The company added the order for ATGMs will be executed in the span of 42 months and SAMs in the span of 12 months.

However, the defence firm didn’t mention the significant terms and conditions of orders due to confidentiality “in view of national security”.
