Balrampur Chini, New India Assurance, TARIL shares gain amid spike in volumes; check full list

The Indian equity benchmarks continue to trade lower in afternoon deals on Monday, August 31, owing to weakness in heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Infosys, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Steel and Adani Ports. The benchmarks, however, pared some losses owing to buying in ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance and Sun Pharma.

As of 1:31 pm, the SENSEX was down 267 points at 76,997 and NIFTY50 index declined 107 points to 24,070.

Here are shares witnessing heavier than usual trading activity:
New India Assurance Company: Shares of the general insurance company rose as much as 7.24% to hit an intraday high of ₹200 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) jumped by 15.6 times to 2.23 crore shares compared with an average volume of 14.31 lakh shares.

As many as 12.42 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 1.41 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Supreme Petrochem: Shares of the petrochemicals company rose 6% to an intraday high of ₹743.70 amid spike in volumes.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 12 times to 10.05 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 81,071 shares.

A total of 50,000 shares were traded on the BSE compared with its two week average of 4,103 shares.

Authum Investment: Shares of the non-banking finance company advanced as much as 6.6% to hit an intraday high of ₹578.

Trading volume on the NSE spiked by 7.1 times to 11.29 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 1.6 lakh shares.

On the BSE, a total of 4 lakh shares exchanged hands compared with two week average of 2.64 lakh shares.

Balrampur Chini Mills: Shares of the sugar manufacturer climbed 12.7% to an intraday high of ₹738, mirroring gains in other sugar companies.

Trading volume jumped by 5.3 times to 2.71 crore shares compared with an average volume of 51.19 lakh shares on the NSE.

19.76 lakh shares were traded on the BSE compared with a two week average of 5.31 lakh shares.

Transformers and Rectifiers: Shares of the heavy electrical equipment maker advanced as much as 7.7% to hit an intraday high of ₹327 after the company marked a strategic entry into India’s nuclear power sector with a landmark NPCIL order for transformers and reactors.

Transformers and reactors are essential electrical devices used in power systems to manage alternating current (AC) electricity, though they serve opposite primary functions.

The company's press release said that it has secured a large order for the supply of Generator Transformers for the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited’s (NPCIL) Kaiga Units 5 & 6 nuclear power project in Karnataka.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 5.1 times to 94.99 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 18,75 lakh shares on the NSE.
