Trading holiday on April 14: NSE, BSE to remain closed on Tuesday for Ambedkar Jayanti; check details

While the MCX will be closed for its morning session from 9 am to 5 pm on Tuesday, April 14, it will reopen for its evening session from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm.

Stock Market holiday on April 14: The Indian stock exchanges, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE, will be closed on Tuesday, April 14, on the occasion of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti.

Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti commemorates the birth anniversary of the principal architect of the Indian constitution, Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, born in 1891.

The bourses will resume trading on Wednesday, April 15.

This is the second trading holiday in April. The exchanges were also closed on April 3 for Good Friday.

Stock market holidays in May 2026

In the month of May, the stock market will observe a holiday on two days (excluding weekends), including May 1 and May 24.

The bourses will observe a trading holiday on Thursday, May 1, on account of Maharashtra Day, and on Thursday, May 28, on the occasion of Bakri Id.

In June, the trading holiday falls on June 26, as the exchanges remain shut on Friday on account of Muharram. However, there are no stock market holidays in July.

Will MCX be open or closed on April 14?

Furthermore, the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) will observe partial closure on April 14.

While the domestic commodity exchange will be closed for its morning session from 9 am to 5 pm, it will reopen for its evening session from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm. It will also observe a partial holiday on May 1.

The MCX was closed for both the morning and evening sessions on April 3 for Good Friday.

Bank holidays on April 14

Banks across all the major Indian cities, except Aizwal, Bhopal, Itanagar, Kohima, New Delhi, Raipur, Shillong, and Shimla, will observe a holiday on April 14 for Ambedkar Jayanti.

Furthermore, bank branches in Agartala, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kochi, Kolkata, Shimla and Thiruvananthapuram are shut on April 15 on account of Bengali New Year’s Day (Nababarsha)/Bohag Bihu/Vishu/Himachal Day (based on the region).
