Stock market holiday: Are NSE, BSE closed on August 15 for Independence Day 2024?

Stock market holiday: The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE will remain closed on Thursday, August 15, 2024, in view of Independence Day 2024. According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) holiday calendar, public and private banks across the country will also remain shut.

Stock market to remain closed

The NSE and the BSE (formerly the Bombay Stock Exchange) will be closed for trading on Thursday. The equities, equity derivate section, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segment will not open for trade. The futures and options division will also be closed for trading.

The stock exchanges will resume normal trading on Friday, August 16.

Independence Day 2024 bank holiday

On Independence Day, which is recognised as a national holiday, all public and private banks across India will remain closed.

Despite banks being closed, online banking services will be available.

  • August 19: Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated in states of Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.

  • August 26: For Janmashtami, banks will remain closed in Gujarat, Odisha, Chandigarh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Jammu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Bihar, Meghalaya, Srinagar, Jharkhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

MCX and NCDEX on Independence Day 2024

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will be closed for morning and evening trading sessions. In addition, NCDEX (National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Ltd) will be closed for trading on Independence Day.

Government offices and schools

Government offices, schools and colleges will observe a holiday on August 15.
