What is the Muhurat Trading Session?

Diwali (or Deepawali) is one of the biggest festivals in India. It symbolises the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil.

Muhurat Trading is an auspicious, symbolic one-hour special trading session conducted every year on Diwali to mark the beginning of a new Samvat (the Hindu calendar year). This time, it will mark the beginning of Samvat 2082.

Typically, this period is during the evening of Diwali. However, this time, the session will be held in the afternoon.

Muhurat is a Hindi term that means an "auspicious period" for any good task or activity.

Trading would take place across various segments like equity, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures & options and securities lending & borrowing (SLB) in the same time slot.

Muhurat Trading significance

Most people prefer buying stocks in this special trading session as a token of Goddess Lakshmi. Investors believe that the trading during this session benefits them throughout the year.
