LIC Q1 Results: Net profit rises to ₹10,985 crore, net premium income up 4.7% YoY

Shares of Life Insurance Corporation ended 0.7% down at ₹886.40 apiece on the NSE on Thursday, August 7.

Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) on Thursday, August 7, reported a consolidated net profit of ₹10,985 crore for the April-June quarter of the current fiscal year (Q1 FY26), up 4.11% from ₹10,551 crore posted in the year-ago period. On a standalone basis, LIC's net profit jumped 5% YoY to ₹10,986.51 crore in Q1 FY26 from ₹10,461.05 crore in Q1FY25.

The company's net premium income jumped 4.71% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹1.2 lakh crore during the reporting quarter, rising from ₹1.14 lakh crore in Q1 FY25.

LIC's non-par APE (annualised premium equivalent) share within the individual business was at 30.34% during the reporting quarter against 23.94% in the year-ago quarter.

Its individual business non-par APE jumped 32.6% to ₹2,142 crore, while the group business APE increased by 16.1% YoY to ₹5,590 crore. Its overall APE increased by 9.4% to ₹12,652 crore. Further, its net value of new business (VNB) grew by 20.7% YoY to ₹1,944 crore.

"During the first quarter of this financial year, our overall market share by First Year Premium Income was 63.51% and we maintained our leadership in both Individual and Group Business. Key elements of our strategy, like an increase in Non Par share in Individual business, an increase in VNB margin and an increase in Banca share, are fully on track," said LIC's CEO and Managing Director R Doraiswamy.

Doraiswamy added, "The share of Non Par products within the Individual segment, on an APE basis, has increased to 30.34% in the first quarter of FY26 as compared to 23.94% for the same quarter last year. VNB margin has increased by 150 bps to 15.4% on a Year-on-Year basis, while our expense ratio has declined by 140 bps to 10.47% in this quarter."

As of June 30, 2025, over 1.9 lakh women have been appointed as Bima Sakhis, who sold more than 3.26 lakh policies during Q1 FY26, he said.

LIC's assets under management (AUM) during the June quarter increased by 6.4% YoY to ₹57.05 lakh crore.

The company continues to be the market leader in the Indian life insurance business, in terms of market share measured by first-year premium income (FYPI), with an overall market share of 63.51%, LIC said on Thursday.

"For the quarter ended June 30th, 2025, LIC had a market share of 38.76% in individual business and 76.54% in the group business," the company added.

In Q1 FY26, the yield on investments in policyholders' funds (excluding unrealised gains) was 8.4% against 8.5% a year ago.

Shares of LIC ended 0.7% down at ₹886.40 apiece on the NSE on Thursday, August 7. The company announced its Q1 earnings after market hours. LIC's stock opened at ₹894.90 per share on Thursday.

The company's market capitalisation stands at ₹5,60,647.80 crore.

The scrip hit its 52-week high of ₹1,160 per share on August 9, 2025, while it was at its 52-week low of ₹715.30 apiece on March 3, 2025.

Over the last six months, LIC's stock has gained 8.61%. However, year-to-date, it has fallen by 1.12%.
