Public sector coal mining company Bharat Coking Coal recorded a ₹124 crore net profit in its July to September quarter earnings report for the financial year 2026-27, versus a net loss in the same quarter the previous year, due to strong revenue gains, an increase in production and offtake volumes in the period under review.

The latest NSE filings showed that Bharat Coking Coal earlier recorded a net loss of nearly ₹53 crore during the second quarter of FY26, and a net loss of ₹68 crore in the first quarter of FY27.

The Coal India subsidiary’s revenue from core operations surged 39% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹4,413 crore in the second quarter of FY27, in comparison to ₹3,173 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

The financial statements also showed that the PSU mining company’s operating profit or EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation), was at ₹200 crore, with EBITDA margins at 4.5% during the September quarter.

Bharat Coking Coal’s healthy performance in the September quarter earnings report was largely due to the growth in revenues, production volumes, and coal offtake in the period under review.

Coal offtake means the total volume of the produced coal which is supplied to a customer from the mines, a metric which shows the actual delivered volumes to a buyer in a particular period.

Production & offtake volumes

The Q2 filings showed that Bharat Coking Coal’s overall production volumes advanced 7.6% year-on-year (YoY) to 7.22 million tonnes, from 6.71 million tonnes in the same period a year earlier.

The data further showed that the coal offtake volumes surged 9.6% YoY to 8.89 million tonnes in the September quarter, in comparison to 8.11 million tonnes in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Although the overall production and offtake volumes have increased in the September quarter, the company’s production volumes have declined 12.5% in the first half of FY27, while the offtake volumes declined 2.5% in H1 FY27.
