Gold and silver have been rising again due to heightened geopolitical tensions and a weak dollar.

Gold prices on Tuesday, January 20, surpassed the crucial ₹1.5 lakh-per-10-gram mark in Delhi, rising on the back of strong demand in domestic and international markets, according to the All India Sarafa Association.

The yellow metal (24K, 99.9% purity) rose by ₹5,100 to ₹1,53,200 per 10 gram after closing at ₹1,48,100 per 10 gram on Monday.

Meanwhile, silver prices skyrocketed by ₹20,400, rising by nearly 7% in a single session to a new lifetime high of ₹3,23,000 per kg. The white metal has risen by ₹30,400 per kg in just two sessions.

So far this month, the first month of 2026, the precious metals have advanced significantly. Gold has risen by 11.2% from ₹1,37,700 per 10 gram on January 1, while silver has increased by as much as 35.1% in the last 20 days.

In the international markets, spot gold crossed the $4,700 per ounce level for the first time, a PTI report quoted forex.com data. The yellow metal added $66.38, or 1.42%, to USD 4,737.40 per ounce. Spot silver also surged to a fresh peak of $95.88 per ounce in the overseas markets.

Gold, silver futures

In domestic futures trade as well, gold and silver touched new peaks on Tuesday. Gold futures for the February expiry climbed to a new all-time high of ₹1,52,500 per 10 gram on the MCX, rising from Monday’s closing price of ₹1,45,639 per 10 gram.

Silver futures for March delivery rose to a fresh record high of ₹3,27,998 per kg on the Multi Commodity Exchange on Tuesday, after closing at ₹3,10,275 per kg on Monday.
