Zomato's net profit declined 57.2% to ₹59 crore in Q3 FY25.
"The board of directors of the Company... have approved the change in the name of the Company from 'Zomato Limited' to 'Eternal Limited'," the filing stated.
The board also approved a postal ballot notice to be sent to shareholders seeking their consent for the name change and the related amendments in the company's governing documents.
The approval is in line with the company’s strategy to transition to a multi-CEO structure, with its various businesses—Zomato, Blinkit, Hyperpure, and District—operating under the larger umbrella of Eternal.
Explaining the rationale behind the name change, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal, in a letter to shareholders, said, "When we acquired Blinkit, we started using 'Eternal' internally to distinguish between the company and the brand/app. We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal, the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there."
"We would like to rename Zomato Ltd., the company (not the brand/app), to Eternal Ltd.," he added.
Goyal described 'Eternal' as both a powerful name and a mission statement. "A reminder etched into our identity that we will endure—not because we are here, but because we need to get there," he said.
Once approved, the company's corporate website will transition from zomato.com to eternal.com, and its stock ticker will change from ZOMATO to ETERNAL. Eternal will comprise four major businesses—Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
In an internal note to employees in 2022, Goyal talked about the multi-CEO structure under an umbrella company. He had previously clarified that there were no plans to rebrand the Zomato app as 'Eternal', following the company’s internal restructuring post the acquisition of quick commerce platform Blinkit.
