What is Chakshu portal? How to report fraud calls, messages? All you need to know

With the increasing number of spam calls and messages, the government has launched a new portal called Chakshu to report fraudulent communications.

What is the Chakshu portal?

The government has launched the Chakshu portal under the Sanchar Saathi initiative to report suspected fraud communications on calls, SMS and WhatsApp.

If you suspect any fraudulent communication within the last 30 days, you can report it immediately. Such communications may include frauds like KYC expiry or update of bank account, SIM, payment wallet, gas connection, electricity connection, impersonation as a government official or relative for sending money and sextortion, among others.

It should be noted that the Chakshu portal is for reporting fraud communication. If you have already lost money due to financial fraud or are a victim of cybercrime, please report it to the cyber crime helpline number 1930 or the website https://www.cybercrime.gov.in.

How to report fraud communication on the Chakshu portal?

  • Visit https://sancharsaathi.gov.in/
  • In the centric services corner, click on 'Report suspected fraud communication'
  • On the next page, fill in details such as the medium of fraud communication and other information.
  • Click on ‘Verify mobile via OTP’ and submit a complaint.

Other facilities available on the Sanchar Saathi website are as follows:

  • One can know mobile connections issued in their name and report
  • To know the mobile connections issued in their name and report the mobile connections for disconnection that are not required or not taken by them
  • To report the lost/stolen mobile for blocking and tracing
  • To check the authenticity of a mobile handset while buying a new or old device,
  • To report the incoming international calls received with an Indian telephone number as calling line identification
  • To check the information of licensed wireline internet service providers.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also launched the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for real-time coordination among telecom service providers, law enforcement agencies, financial institutions (FIs), banks, social media platforms and identity document issuing authorities.
