IndiGo said on Thursday it will operate 17 departures to eight destinations in the Middle East on March 6, subject to prevailing safety conditions and regulatory approvals.

The airline said it is “closely monitoring the dynamically evolving situation” and coordinating with government authorities to ensure the safe restoration of flights.

The budget carrier said its teams are contacting affected passengers directly through their registered contact details and advised travellers not to proceed to airports unless they have been notified about their flight status.

IndiGo’s scheduled flights include routes connecting several Indian cities with Jeddah, Medina, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dubai, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. The services include flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Kozhikode and Lucknow to these destinations.

Air India and its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express have also begun resuming some flights to the region after assessing certain airspaces as safe for operations.

The airline group said airspaces over Saudi Arabia and Oman remain open, allowing scheduled flights to resume to Jeddah and Muscat on March 5 and March 6.

Scheduled flights on March 5 and 6 include services from Delhi and Mumbai to Jeddah operated by Air India and multiple Air India Express flights between Indian cities and Muscat, including routes from Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangaluru, Tiruchirappalli and Thiruvananthapuram.

Air India and Air India Express are also operating additional ad-hoc special flights to and from Dubai, Muscat and Ras Al Khaimah on March 5 and 6, subject to slot availability and operational conditions at departure airports.

The special services are being operated with permissions from regulatory authorities in India, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, after safety and security assessments, the airline group said.

The airline group has also offered flexible rebooking options to passengers whose travel plans have been affected.

Air India passengers holding tickets issued until March 4 for travel between February 28 and March 8 can rebook their journey to India within one month of the original travel date without additional charges.

Air India Express has similarly allowed passengers booked on cancelled flights from the UAE to shift their bookings to alternative flights from other UAE airports to destinations in India without paying extra charges.

Despite the disruptions in West Asia, the airline said its long-haul services to Europe, the United Kingdom and North America have been operating normally since March 2.

However, they are now operating on longer alternative routes through available airspace over Oman, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Flights to North America are currently making technical stops in Rome or Vienna before proceeding to their destinations due to extended routing.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet said it is operating a series of special evacuation-style flights from the UAE, particularly from Fujairah and Dubai, to Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Pune between March 6 and March 8.

The airline has scheduled multiple services across the three days to help bring back Indian passengers stranded in the region amid the disruption.
