The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE will be closed on Friday, March 29, on the account of Good Friday. The date has been notified as a public holiday in Mumbai, where both the bourses are located.

No trading activity will take place on the stock exchanges. According to the NSE website, there will be no trading in equity, equity derivative, or securities lending and borrowing segments.

The Indian stock market operates from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm from Monday to Friday. This year, the markets are closed for at least 15 days due to festivals and other events, as per the official NSE calendar.

Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed for morning and evening sessions on Friday.

Good Friday 2024: What else is closed?

  • Banks: Banks will remain shut in all states except for states and regions such as Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu and Srinagar on Good Friday.
  • Government offices and private organisations: Most government offices and many private organisations will be closed on March 29.
  • Educational institutions: Schools and college students will have a long weekend due to Good Friday.

Stock market holidays in April 2024

In April, the NSE and the BSE will remain shut on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitr on April 11 and Ram Navmi on April 17.

Meanwhile, benchmark Indices – NIFTY50 (+1.07%) and SENSEX (+1.09%) – are trading in the positive territory on Thursday. NIFTY50 is trading above the 22,350 level, up 1.07%, while SENSEX has gained 1.1% or 808 points at 73,793 points. Out of the NIFTY50 space, 44 stocks are advancing. Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Grasim, Hero MotoCorp and Eicher Motors are top gainers.
