Stock market and bank holidays in December: Banks to remain closed on THESE days this month; check full list

Banks in India will remain closed on many days in December across various states. While banks are shut every Sunday and second and fourth Saturdays of every month in the country, different states observe different bank holidays as per their respective traditions.

For this month too, several bank holidays will be observed across different states, including Indigenous Faith Day, Goa Liberation Day and Christmas.

On bank holidays, mobile banking, net banking, UPI transactions and ATM withdrawals function as usual, making it possible for people to carry out transactions without any major disruptions. Only physical bank branches remain shut on these holidays.

Stock market holidays

In December, only one stock market holiday will be observed: Christmas, December 25. For 2025, the bourses in India, BSE and NSE, have a total of 14 holidays, of which 13 have already passed. Only one holiday is left, which will be Christmas.

On December 25, there will be no stock market transactions, including in equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing and currency derivatives.

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also be closed on Christmas Day for both morning and evening trading sessions. On certain occasions, like Diwali, Holi and Id, the MCX operates for half a day. However, on Christmas, it will remain closed for the whole day.
