The expenditure incurred on 1,981 central sector infrastructure projects being monitored by the government has reached about 47.59% of their revised project cost, according to an official report released on Monday.
Around 40% of the projects have achieved over 80% physical progress, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s (MoSPI) latest flash report showed.
According to the report, infrastructure projects costing ₹150 crore and above showed that cumulative expenditure on these projects stood at ₹20.36 lakh crore against the revised project cost of ₹42.78 lakh crore as of April 2026.
Of the total projects, 801 projects, or around 40%, have achieved over 80% physical progress, while 277 projects have crossed 80% financial completion.
The projects are being monitored through MoSPI’s PAIMANA platform across 17 central ministries and departments.
The transport and logistics sector accounts for the highest share, with 1,459 projects involving revised costs of ₹23.34 lakh crore.
The sector includes roads and highways, railways, aviation, urban public transport, shipping and inland waterways projects.
The energy sector follows with 221 projects worth ₹11.30 lakh crore, while communication infrastructure projects account for ₹2.73 lakh crore across 12 projects.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways accounts for the highest number of projects at 1,137, representing 57% of all monitored projects, with revised project costs of ₹10.81 lakh crore.
The Ministry of Railways is implementing 260 projects worth ₹8.69 lakh crore, while the Ministry of Coal has 128 projects with revised costs of ₹2.49 lakh crore.
The ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Power, and Housing and Urban Affairs are implementing projects worth ₹5.19 lakh crore, ₹5.53 lakh crore and ₹3.75 lakh crore, respectively.
MoSPI said 814 mega projects with project costs of ₹1,000 crore and above account for ₹31.63 lakh crore of the total revised cost, while 1,167 major projects valued between ₹150 crore and ₹1,000 crore account for ₹5.49 lakh crore.
During April 2026, nine projects were commissioned, including projects under the ministries of Road Transport and Highways, Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Railways, and Labour and Employment.
These include the ₹758.4 crore flyover and rail overbridge project on the Nagpur-Raipur Road in Maharashtra, the ₹688.74 crore transmission system project for renewable energy evacuation in Rajasthan, and the ₹362.31 crore Jabalpur Sewerage Management and Treatment Infrastructure Project.
The ministry further said 55 additional projects were added to the PAIMANA monitoring platform during April.
The newly added projects include the ₹15,611 crore Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase-3 under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the ₹14,105.83 crore Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project under the Ministry of Power, and the ₹2,360 crore Zaheerabad Node development project under the Hyderabad-Nagpur Industrial Corridor.
