The users of X, formerly known as Twitter, can get premium features for free if they have a large base of verified followers, announced Elon Musk, the owner of the microblogging platform.

In a post on X, Musk said that users who have over 2,500 verified followers will soon be able to access ‘Premium’ features for free, whereas, those with at least 5,000 verified followers will be able to access ‘Premium+’ features without any cost. He did not specify the date from when the new rules would come into effect.

“Going forward, all 𝕏 accounts with over 2,500 verified subscriber followers will get Premium features for free and accounts with over 5,000 will get Premium+ for free,” Musk posted on X.

What is X Premium?

The premium or basic features plan is available at ₹244 per month or ₹2590 per year for Indian X users. The subscription allows the user to edit tweets, post tweets with up to 4,000 characters, and hide the list of likes and subscriptions from other users. Furthermore, it allows users to post longer videos of up to 20 minutes, and get a boost to their replies.

The plan also makes the account more secure by enabling double-factor authentication, and encrypted direct messages. However, it does not grant the user the blue tick or the verified badge.

What is X Premium+?

The Premium+ or the advanced premium plan is available for Indian X users at a price of ₹1,300 per month or ₹13,600 per year. In addition to the services available under the basic plan, the Premium+ subscription allows users to access X’s Media Studio and analytics. It also makes the users’ timelines ad-free.

The plan is also inclusive of a free blue tick – for which the company normally charges $8 or ₹666 per month.
