A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 71 other ministers took oath to office, the cabinet portfolios were allocated to the newly sworn-in ministers on Monday, June 10.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nirmala Sitharaman, who was heading the finance ministry in the previous government, has been again assigned the key portfolio.
Her party colleague Piyush Goyal has also retained his ministerial portfolio of commerce.
Agriculture, seen as a key ministry in view of the multiple agrarian agitations over the past couple of years, has been allocated to former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Meanwhile, the top ministries of home and cooperation have been re-assigned to Amit Shah; defence has been re-allotted to Rajnath Singh; and Nitin Gadkari will continue as the minister for road transport.

The new government has taken charge within a week after the results of the high-stake Lok Sabha elections were declared. The BJP of PM Modi slipped behind the halfway majority mark of 272 seats, as it won only 240 seats. The party, however, succeeded in retaining power as its allies won another 52 seats, taking the overall tally of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance to 292 seats.
