iPhone 17, Air, Pro, Pro Max launched: Check prices in India and sale date

Apple on Tuesday unveiled its iPhone 17 lineup, alongside refreshed AirPods and Apple Watch models, at its annual September product launch. The new smartphones, powered by the A19 processor and featuring larger displays, will go on sale in India from September 19.

The launch is the first since US President Donald Trump returned to the White House earlier this year and imposed fresh tariffs on goods made overseas to push companies to manufacture in America.

The Cupertino-based tech giant, however, continues to assemble iPhones primarily in China and India, much to Washington’s disapproval.

Despite the tariff headwinds, Apple has kept pricing for its new lineup largely unchanged from last year, while dropping the 128GB storage option.

iPhone 17

The iPhone 17, starting at $799 in the US, introduces a 6.3-inch ProMotion display with 120Hz refresh rate, the first time the technology has been included in a non-Pro model. Powered by the new A19 chip, the device is designed to handle more AI-driven tasks on-device. It also comes with a 48-megapixel rear camera, an upgraded front camera with a wider field of view and AI-enabled "Center Stage" support.

iPhone 17 Air

Apple has also launched a completely new tier, the iPhone 17 Air, which it described as the thinnest iPhone ever at just 5.6mm. Air, starting at $999 in the US, supports only eSIM and comes in Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold and Sky Blue. It will be available from September 19.

iPhone 17 Pro

The iPhone 17 Pro, starting at $1,099 in the US, features a new aluminium unibody design and is the first iPhone to use liquid cooling with a vapour chamber system. It introduces an upgraded triple-camera setup with 48MP sensors across all lenses, a ceramic shield back, and improved battery performance.

iPhone 17 Pro Max

At the very top of the lineup sits the iPhone 17 Pro Max, offering the biggest screen, longest battery life and up to 2TB storage.

Apple’s pricing signals its intent to absorb some of the tariff impact while fending off rivals such as Samsung, Google and Chinese smartphone makers. The company has said the new levies could cost it over USD 1 billion this quarter.

Shares of Apple fell 1.6% in after-hours trading following the announcement.
