IndiGo has begun long-haul operations using leased Boeing 787s and aims to boost international capacity from 28% to 40% by FY2030.

InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, which operates India’s largest airline IndiGo, plans to add more overseas destinations and explore new Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) opportunities, as part of its strategy to transform into a global aviation player, according to its annual report for 2024-25.

The carrier, which turned 18 last year, reported record financial results in its FY2025 annual report, including an 18% increase in revenue to ₹84,100 crore and a net profit of ₹7,300 crore.

IndiGo also carried more than 118 million passengers during the year, a 13% increase in capacity.

It has a domestic market share of 64.5%, operates around 2,200 flights daily with more than 430 planes.

"We will continue to add more destinations internationally, especially with XLRs coming in along with our newly leased wide body aircraft for long haul operations. From 28 per cent current international capacity share, we are aiming for 40 per cent by FY 2030," IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said in his message in the annual report.

Earlier this month, the carrier started flights to Manchester and Amsterdam that are being operated with Boeing 787 Dreamliners leased from Norway's Norse Atlantic.

The long range A321 XLRs and wide-body A350-900s are expected to join the airline's fleet in the current fiscal year ending March 2026, and 2027, respectively.

“To not miss out on market demand, we will not wait until the arrival of our own widebody A350s in 2027,” CEO Pieter Elbers said. “We’ve leased six Boeing 787s on a temporary damp lease, with one already flying on the Delhi–Bangkok route. Services to Manchester and Amsterdam began in July 2025.”

The airline also signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for an additional 30 A350-900 aircraft, doubling its earlier widebody order, and recently unveiled an industry-leading partnership with Delta Air Lines, Air France-KLM, and Virgin Atlantic.

"IndiGo also plans to explore new opportunities in the MRO space as India's infrastructure development is picking up," it said.

The airline is setting up an MRO facility in Bengaluru.

IndiGo also highlighted strong momentum in its cargo business, which grew 10% year-on-year domestically and 36% internationally, and said it plans to further tap into European cargo markets in tandem with the arrival of widebody aircraft.
