Aloke Singh, who has over three decades of experience in the aviation sector, most recently served as Managing Director and CEO of Air India Express.

The appointment comes at a time when the airline is undergoing a leadership transition following the recent resignation of its Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers.

In a regulatory filing to stock exchanges, IndiGo said Singh will lead the company’s long-term strategic planning and drive enterprise-wide transformation initiatives focused on accelerating growth, enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening competitive positioning.

Singh, who has over three decades of experience in the aviation sector, most recently served as Managing Director and CEO of Air India Express.

He has also held senior roles at Air India and Oman Air across strategy, planning, operations and commercial functions.

IndiGo Managing Director Rahul Bhatia said Singh brings an “exceptional blend of strategic vision and operational depth”, and his comprehensive understanding of the aviation ecosystem will be invaluable as the airline prepares for its next phase of growth.

“For now, Aloke will report to me. Once the next CEO assumes office, he will transition to reporting to the new Chief Executive,” Bhatia said.

Earlier this month, CEO Pieter Elbers stepped down with immediate effect citing personal reasons, after serving for over three years. Following his exit, Bhatia has taken over the airline’s management on an interim basis until a new CEO is appointed.

The leadership change comes months after the airline faced a major operational meltdown in December, which led to widespread flight cancellations and drew regulatory scrutiny.

At the peak of the crisis, over 1,600 flights were cancelled in a single day, severely impacting passengers across the country.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) later imposed a penalty of ₹22.20 crore on the airline and directed it to curtail its flight schedule temporarily.
