Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) provides central assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh per housing unit.

The Centre has approved the construction of over 2.34 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) in nine states, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said on Wednesday.

The decision was taken during the third meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), chaired by Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Srinivas Katikithala on June 18.

A total of 2,34,864 houses were sanctioned across Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the ministry said in a statement.

The approved houses fall under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) and Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) verticals of PMAY-U 2.0.

The cumulative number of houses sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 now stands at 7,09,979.

Addressing the meeting, Katikithala urged larger states to formulate dedicated affordable housing policies and submit proposals under the AHP component. He suggested that states study and adapt Maharashtra’s affordable housing policy as a reference model.

Over 1.25 lakh houses were sanctioned in the name of women, including single women and widows. Forty-four houses were sanctioned for transgender beneficiaries.

As many as 42,400 houses were sanctioned for Scheduled Castes (SC), 17,574 for Scheduled Tribes (ST), and 1,13,414 for Other Backward Classes (OBC).

Joint Secretary and Mission Director (Housing for All), Kuldip Narayan, directed states and union territories to verify and attach eligible beneficiaries listed on the unified PMAY-U 2.0 portal and to prioritise applicants from Special Focus Groups.

The scheme provides central assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh per housing unit.

Launched in June 2015 and revamped as PMAY-U 2.0, the scheme has already delivered over 93.19 lakh houses to beneficiaries, according to the government.

The current phase targets an additional one crore houses for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low Income Groups (LIG) and Middle Income Groups (MIG) across urban India.

Eligibility and how to apply:

For the BLC and AHP verticals, annual household income should be up to ₹3 lakh.

For the Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS), income should not exceed ₹9 lakh.

Aadhaar or Aadhaar Virtual ID is mandatory for application.
