Jaguar unveiled its radical Type 00 concept car at Miami Art Week, the latest step in its dramatic transformation into an electric-only luxury brand. The British automaker, owned by India’s Tata Group, has faced both praise and backlash for its sweeping rebrand, which includes a revamped logo styled as JaGUar and a new design philosophy dubbed "exuberant modernism."

Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern described the Type 00 as “a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy,” stating that it sets the foundation for a new era of vehicles that will “look unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”

The ‘Type’ prefix refers to models like the iconic E‑type, the first zero represents zero tailpipe emissions, and the second represents its status as car zero in Jaguar’s upcoming lineup of electric luxury vehicles. The concept car features long bonnet, sweeping roofline, glassless rear tailgate, and panoramic roof.

Hailing the first physical manifestation in Type 00, McGovern insisted that new family of Jaguars will look "unlike anything you’ve ever seen."

The first of Jaguar’s new electric models, a four-door GT, is set to launch in 2025, offering a range of up to 770km (478 miles) on a single charge. Deliveries of the electric Range Rover, also built in the UK, are expected to begin next year.

The concept was showcased in two striking colourways: ‘Miami Pink’, inspired by South Florida’s Art Deco palette, and ‘London Blue’, a nod to Jaguar’s British roots.

The minimalist interior features floating seats, a travertine stone plinth, and customisable cabin settings via a Prism case with tactile totems of natural materials like brass and alabaster.

"We have forged a fearlessly creative new character for Jaguar that is true to the DNA of the brand but future facing, relevant and one that really stands out," said Rawdon Glover, MD, Jaguar.

The concept vehicles are used to guage customer interest in a design and not meant to be sold.

With production models yet to hit the market, the success of this bold reimagining remains uncertain. While Jaguar’s critics question whether the company can maintain its identity in the EV era, its supporters argue the risks are necessary to stay relevant in an increasingly competitive market.
