Effective August 1, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will enforce the new FASTag regulations aimed at the betterment of payment processes and easing congestion at toll booths.

One of the key updates is the mandatory KYC (Know Your Customer) requirement. The process for KYC starts on Thursday and to comply with the NPCI regulations, FASTag customers have to complete the KYC updating formalities within this period.

FASTag rules effective from August 1

  • All FASTags that are three to five years old must be updated and the ones older than five years should be replaced.
  • KYC must be updated for FASTags that were issued 3 years ago.
  • FASTag must be linked with the vehicle registration number and chassis number.
  • The registration number should be updated within 90 days of buying a new vehicle.
  • FASTag providers must complete their database verification.
  • Clear photos of the vehicle’s front and side must be uploaded.
  • FASTag should be linked to a contact number.

Steps to be taken

In order to comply with these new regulations, customers should:

  • Check the date of issuance of their FASTags.
  • Update the KYC for FASTags that are three to five years old and replace the ones older than five years.
  • Make sure their FASTag is linked to the registration number and chassis number of their vehicles.
  • Update the registration details within 90 days of buying a new vehicle.

What is the deadline?

The deadline for complying with these new guidelines is October 31, 2024. The NPCI has advised all to adhere to the deadline to prevent any issues later.
