EPFO enrolled around 10.62 lakh new subscribers in June 2025

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) recorded its highest-ever net addition of members in June 2025, with nearly 22 lakh people joining the retirement fund body, an official statement said on Wednesday.

According to provisional payroll data released by EPFO, net member additions stood at 21.89 lakh in June, the highest since the organisation began tracking payroll data in April 2018.

It also marked a 9.14% increase over May 2025 and a 13.46% rise compared to June last year.

Of the total, 10.62 lakh were new subscribers, up 12.68% over May and 3.61% higher than a year ago.

“This increase in new subscribers can be attributed to growing employment opportunities, increased awareness of employee benefits, and EPFO's successful outreach programs,” the release said.

The 18-25 age group accounted for over 60% of new members, with 6.39 lakh enrolments in June. Net additions in this age group rose 11.41% month-on-month and 12.15% year-on-year, indicating that most individuals joining the organised workforce are first-time job seekers.

Around 16.93 lakh people who had exited earlier rejoined EPFO in June, reflecting a 5.09% increase over May and a robust 19.65% jump compared to June 2024.

“These members switched their jobs and re-joined the establishments covered under the ambit of EPFO and opted to transfer their accumulations instead of applying for final settlement thus safeguarding long-term financial well-being and extending their social security protection,” the labour ministry said in a statement.

The payroll data also highlighted rising female participation. Nearly 3.02 lakh women were newly enrolled in June, up 14.92% over the previous month. Net female additions stood at 4.72 lakh, marking a yearly growth of over 10%.

“The growth in female member additions is indicative of a broader shift towards a more inclusive and diverse workforce,” the ministry noted.

State-wise, the top five contributors accounted for more than 61% of net payroll additions, adding a total around 13.46 lakh net payroll during the month.

Maharashtra led the states by adding 20.03% of net payroll during the month. The states/UTs of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana individually added more than 5% of the total net payroll during the month.
