Diwali 2024: As the nation buckles up to celebrate the festival of light, the stock market has a shortened week ahead. With Diwali kicking off on October 29, the equity market will be closed for one day on Friday.

With the Diwali season being celebrated from Tuesday, October 29 to Sunday, November 3, the market will be closed on November 1.

Holiday Calendar this festive week

October 31

The Amavasya Tithi for Diwali 2024 will begin on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at 3:52 pm.

Although the market observes a normal day of trading from 9:15 am to 3:15 pm, banks will be closed across several cities in India.

As per the Reserve Bank’s calendar, a bank holiday will be observed in Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla and Thiruvananthapuram.

November 1

Amavasya Tithi will end on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 6:16 pm, with Laxmi Puja Muharat between 5:36 pm and 6:16 pm.

Markets will be closed on November 1, with Muharat trading being observed between 6 pm and 7 pm, as per circulars by the NSE and BSE.

Friday will be a bank holiday in Agartala, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Shillong and Srinagar.

November 2

Govardhan Puja on Saturday, November 2, marks the second last day of Diwali.

While markets remain closed on this day as it is a weekend holiday, banks will observe a holiday across some cities.

November 2 will be a bank holiday in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai and Nagpur.
