World population to peak within this century: UN report

UN's World Population Prospects 2024 expects the world's population to peak in the mid-2080s, growing in the time period from 8.2 billion in 2024 to around 10.3 billion in the mid-2080s. After peaking, the population will return to around 10.2 billion by the end of 2100, it added.

By the end of this century, the world's population is now projected to be 6% lower or 700 million people fewer—than anticipated a decade ago.

As of 2024, the population has peaked in 63 nations, including China, Japan, Germany and the Russian Federation, and the total population of these countries is expected to decline by 14% over the next thirty years.
